Known as ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan’, Bharatpur is located in Brig region, and it was in 1733 AD that it was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal. Part of National Capital region, the city is most famous for Keoladeo National Park. Keoladeo National Park attracts tourists from all around the nation. As the rulers of Bharatpur were the Jats, hence it used to be a duck hunting park for them. Today, more than 350 species of birds from different countries of Asia gather here every year and then stay.


It is believed that apart from being a brave king, Suraj Mal was a great builder as well, which is why here you’ll find number of forts. Among them, the most prominent is Bharatpur Palace, which is a stately and striking blend of Rajputana and Mughal architecture. This is one place which was built by different rulers during their reign. The antique items displayed here are from 2nd century.


Laxmi Niwas Palace is another of the extravagant site at this place that has now been converted into hotel. Tourists come and stay here to experience the royal treatment.


Brij Mahotsav is a festival held here in the month of March, and during the festival, a lot of cultural activities are held.
