Christmas Festival

Christmas is a festival celebrated worldwide, especially among people following Christianity, in order to honor the birth of Jesus Christ. On the day of this widely observed Christian holiday, family and friends come together and exchange gifts. In India, Christmas is celebrated annually on December 25. Besides spending time with family & friends, people here attend the special church services, adorn new attires, prepare a feast, distribute sweets or presents to children, deck up their homes and also decorate Christmas trees, which are generally imitation of pine trees.

As per the Gregorian calendar, Christmas falls on December 25th, and this is the day observed by the Christmas as the birth of Jesus Christ, as otherwise his birth-date remains unknown. It’s predicted by modern historiographers that his birth year is between 7 and 2 BC, however what remains mysterious is his correct birth date and month. Also two of the four canonical gospels have the mention about his birth.

In India, Christmas celebrations are not as grand as in other European countries, due to the minority of Christians, but still in urban India, such as cities like Mumbai, Goa, where you find large number of people from this very religion, this day is marked with enough zeal and joy. Nowadays even non-Christians celebrate this festival in Indianized manner and mostly it is referred as ‘Bada Din’ here.
