Diwali is the most celebrated Indian festival not only in the country but worldwide as well by the NRIs and foreigners who are inspired by Indian culture and its festivals. Commonly known as ‘Festival of Lights’, on this auspicious day many small diyas are lit and then placed inside and around the house. Mostly it is celebrated 18 days after Dusshera and according to the culture, its significance differs. However, one thing which is common everywhere is that it implies renewal of life, which why people get dressed in new clothes and mark this festival. Another common practice is to distribute sweets to the near and dear ones, as well as business associates.

Everyone from kids to oldies indulge in fireworks, whereas at some places fairs are also organized. This festival marks the homecoming of Lord Rama, who returns home with his consort Sita and brother Laxman after completing 14 years of exile. Symbol of wealth and prosperity, Goddess Laxmi, who is the consort of Lord Vishnu, is also worshipped on Diwali. This is the day of national holidays, so the offices are all closed.
