Highly successful literary festival of Asia, Jaipur Literature Festival has been consistently organized since it started in the year of 2006 and the common venue is The Diggi Palace Hotel, where it is held in the month of January. It rejoices brilliance in Rajasthani, Indian and International writing, with writers, lyricist, thinkers, poets and various other renowned personalities from India as well as aboard attend it. In the last few years, names like Salman Rushdie and Oprah Winfrey pulled big crowd of Indians as well the foreigners, towards the Festival. More than 500 authors, poets, musicians and performers take part in this five-day event, where debates, dialogues, readings, conversations and music on myriad subjects occur.
There is no entrance fee to this book fair and the doors are open to everyone fascinated by the literature. Since 2006, immense growth has been noticed with big names, like Geoff Dyer, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Jamaica Kincaid, Niall Ferguson, Vikram Chandra, Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai, Suketu Mehta, Shashi Deshpande adding spark to it. JLF puts forward an outlook on Indian literature to foreign as well as Indian audience, coming from various states and it has played huge role in making the Indian culture, literature and music quite accessible to global audience.
